Multi-ethnic donor awareness month

Good Morning Texas, at WFAA Channel 8, interviewed Heather & Andrew Santiago, and Jocelyn Phillips from Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA), to share the importance of BIPOC organ donors and Jordan’s legacy gift. During the interview, the Santiagos had the opportunity to share their experience meeting Jordan`s heart and lungs recipients.

August is the national “multi-ethnic donor awareness month”, a special effort to help save and heal lives within diverse communities, by creating a “positive culture” for organ, eye, and tissue donation. Increased diversity in the donor population can lead to increased access to transplantation for all.

Do you know how many Texans are on the transplant waiting list? According to Jocelyn, more than ten thousand, and another person is added every nine minutes. One heroic donor, like Jordan, has the power to save eight lives through organ donation and potentially save seventy-five more lives through the gift of tissue donation.
